The program includes a one-hour ceremony hosted by President Ana Mari Cauce and Provost Mark Richards, followed by a reception with hors d’oeuvres, desserts, a photo booth and a chance to connect and celebrate with the UW community.
CICOES’s Burlyn Birkemeier is a recipient of the 2022 Together We Will Award
In her role as a marine mammal researcher, Burlyn has remained a high performer during this difficult year through taking on new responsibilities and being part of cutting-edge research. Burlyn’s work this year on the Health and Safety Committee, the DEI Outreach subcommittee, and as a supervisor, has had an outsized impact on the CICOES community and her team. Burlyn’s contributions have strengthened CICOES’ health and safety capabilities overall by including her knowledge and field work experience into the creation of attainable protocols and working first hand with the researchers involved in the fieldwork. We can always count on Burlyn to share her thoughtful opinion even if it goes against what others in the group are saying. Often, she has considered an angle that others have not. Burlyn has shown an exceptional degree of initiative and professionalism, and the extension of her primary responsibilities will have a lasting impact.
