Field Emergency Assistance
As of January 1, 2024, the University of Washington is providing free emergency medical and security international insurance coverage to all faculty, staff, and other academic personnel traveling abroad on official UW business. Cigna is UW’s international insurance provider. International SOS (ISOS) is UW’s emergency assistance provider. In the event of an emergency you should reach out to ISOS for assistance. Insurance Coverage Overview
- Access to 24/7 travel assistance and support. This requires downloading the ISOS Assistance app to your phone and creating your account using your UW email address.
- Major medical insurance benefits while overseas.
- Emergency evacuation and repatriation services in the event of a medical, political, or natural disaster emergency.

- Please note: there is no coverage for dependents. Please reach out to UW Global Travel Health and Safety (travelemergency@uw.edu) for options on enrolling dependents.
Accessing Your Insurance
- Set Up Your International SOS account and Assistance app. Click here to set up your International SOS account and download the ISOS Assistance app. IMPORTANT: You must use your UW email address to set up your account and to login to the app. If you have previously set up an ISOS account with your UW email, you should use your existing login credentials.
- Set up your ISOS account
- Download the ISOS Assistance app
- In your Assistance app Settings, enable ‘Location Based Alerts’ and ‘Auto Emergency Check-In’
- In the Event of an Emergency
- For serious, time-sensitive emergencies, call the local “911” equivalent
- Contact ISOS by phone at +1 215 942 8226 or use the phone or chat function in your Assistance app.
