Employee Recognition

Purpose

The Employee Recognition Award provides a mechanism to acknowledge the outstanding achievements of CICOES employees.

Types of Awards

  • Monetary (usually between $500 and $2,500)
  • Discretionary leave

Nomination Procedure

CICOES supervisors may request an award for someone they supervise at any time by completing the recommendation form, including the UW/CICOES budget to be charged, and forwarding it to the CICOES Administrator. The CICOES awards committee will review the nominations to ensure they meet the eligibility and award criteria. The committee may recommend a different amount for the award, depending on available funding sources. However, all nominees whom meet the criteria will be awarded.

Eligibility

Nominees must be CICOES employees who have not received a CICOES award in the past 12 months. Student employees are not eligible.

Award Criteria

Performance

One time noteworthy achievement. Completing a difficult project, going beyond the call of duty, producing ground-breaking research, etc. This can include being an individual or part of a team that wins a NOAA award, where there’s a NOAA-paid cash prize for the Federal staff, but no such NOAA-paid cash prize for the CICOES employee.

Individual Skills

Enthusiasm, resourcefulness, initiative, innovation, creativity, and leadership. Showing reliability and devotion to the job, positive attitude, and/or behavior admired and valued by peers. Volunteering for an extra or emergency assignment.

Teamwork Skills

Helping others, serving as a leader or mentor, sharing knowledge/ideas, problem solving, contributing to a positive work environment.

High Standards

Producing work of exceptionally high quality under tight deadlines or other constraints.
