Performance Reviews
Employee performance reviews take place each spring between employees and their UW supervisor. NOAA personnel are not involved in performance reviews.
Performance Review Steps
- Employees fill out the self-evaluation form and submit it to their UW supervisor.
- UW supervisors fill out the supervisor evaluation form and set up a meeting with their supervisee.
- The meeting may include:
- A review of the employee’s job description. Is it accurate and complete?
- A review of accomplishments for the past year, including challenges that were experienced accomplishing those goals.
- A list of goals for the coming year. Goals should be SMART and tied to departmental goals and your job description.
- An assessment of skills and knowledge needed to achieve goals. Discuss a plan to incorporate training as needed.
- A discussion of long-term professional goals. This is a good time to advocate for professional growth through training and job opportunities.
- Ensure that the employee understands the goals for next year.
- Visit the UW HR website for more information on employee work performance.
- Give the opportunity for the employee to review the form. When finalized, sign the performance review and return to the HR Manager
- Self Evaluations are due by June 12, 2025
- Supervisor evaluations are due by July 9, 2025

Job Descriptions
Employee job descriptions should be updated annually during the performance review process. The employee should update the description with the input and review of the supervisor. Examples of typical descriptions are available from the HR Manager. Employees, supervisors, and the HR Manager should all receive and keep current copies.
